Last week DH and I went to Michigan to visit my family. It involves a 14 hour drive each way. Plenty of time to think. On our drive home we realized that we are getting very used to talking about our daughter-to-be as "Wen" and our family and friends are also calling her "Wen". Now the fact that I am using that for the blog name and writing about her with that name is definitely contributing to the situation. But the fact that we can't settle on an English name means that we needed to call her something and the first half of her Chinese name is not the easiest to say (so we generally don't). We've also been mindful that we can't strip away her Chinese name which has been part of her identity and have constantly considered how to incorporate it into her new name.
Anyway in the car yesterday, we were talking about how comfortable it is to just call her Wen, but combined with our last name it sounds really bland. Then I started experimenting with different sounds - long story short - we have added Wendi Michelle to our list of possible names. We would still keep her full Chinese name as a second middle name, making for a rather long legal name, but how often do you actually have to use your full name.
Hi Sandy, congratulations on your decision to adopt Wen!! That is wonderful news! She is beautiful! Molly showed me the photos. God will bless you for all this. Wen will have such a good home! I am happy for her.
ReplyDeleteMolly is a very nice daughter, too, by the way! We are happy to have her here.
My love to you all, Gudrun
Thanks Gudrun! Hi to you and your family too. Molly had a wonderful visit.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being the first (and only) person to make a comment on my blog. This is still pretty new to me.
