Alice left behind some good friends at her orphanage. She asked us to adopt Su Nan Nan last spring, but there just wasn't enough time to complete the adoption since Su Nan Nan was turning 14 in June. Since then Alice has asked about her other friend, Ma WeiBo. She couldn't really tell us much about her special need - something about her head, but she did say Ma WeiBo needs a family. Ma WeiBo attended school with Alice outside the orphanage. She wasn't a top student, but did well. I can say that the education Alice received at that school was excellent and she was able to jump a full grade without any trouble (outside of switching from Chinese to English). A group of older children, including all the kids who were attending school outside the orphanage were moved at the end of the summer to the other Beijing orphanage. Only the most able and bright kids attended school outside the orphanage - a very small group. Through the grapevine I've heard that the other orphanage is not as good and the local school isn't as good either. Ma WeiBo really needs to have a family soon.
I found these descriptions on a yahoo adoption advocacy site along with a photo. Please contact me if you are interested in more insights from my daughter. You can contact any adoption agency handling China special needs adoptions. Because Ma WeiBo is on the shared list they should be able to find her using her birthdate (10/13/2001), name or initials (MWB) and her special need (hyperplasia of the subcutaneous tissue).
"Ma WeiBo is a beautiful little girl who is 11 years old. She has been in care since she was 3 months old, and with a foster family most of that time. She is outgoing, talkative (of course), friendly and happy. WeiBo has a facial hamartoma on the right side at her cheek. According to her report, she was scheduled for surgery back in 2009. … She has been healthy with normal development. WeiBo is a delightful little girl who loves to do crafts. She is described as the "happy nut" of the family! They all love her very much. She has had such a great introduction to family life...now she needs a family that is truly hers. One that will be her very own forever and ever. WeiBo is waiting for her mom and dad to come and take her home!"
and another description:
"This pretty girl was born 10/2001. She is described as being extroverted, talkative and playful. Her self-care skills are appropriate for her age. She tidies her bed and assists her foster mother. She gives her foster family a lot of joy. She likes to hear about celebrities in the news. She likes to attend school. She stays busy in art class. She finishes her homework quickly and is praised by her teachers. Her favorite food to eat is fruit. She has hyperplasia of the subcutaneous tissue."
