First Fourth

Alice experienced her first July 4th yesterday. The day started with our local parade. All 3 of the older kiddos came home. JJ decided to walk with the Kung fu school. The boys brought their own entertainment - unicycles and homemade stilts.

It was hot, just like it is every year. We set up seats in the area we've used before. We were too late to snag spots in the shade, but there were places close by to get out of the sun, plus we were next to the snow cone wagon!

Alice found her brothers more interesting.

Off they go to show off explore on their stilts. They walked a fair distance before one took a fall (first fall from the stilts for either of them) landing on the pavement. He has an appointment later today with orthopedic office to see how badly he's fractured his left arm.

Alice doesn't seem to be enjoying the classic cars as much as her dad!

Alice got to walk in the parade twice. First time was when one of the local politicians came be handing out candy. Strangely this year no one was throwing candy for the kids so I went up to see if I could get one piece for Alice. I mentioned to him that it was her first 4th of July. He asked if she wanted to walk with him handing out candy! She did - just down to the corner (past the parade judges' stand) and then we went back to our seats. She had fun handing candy to the kids, but didn't understand that she needed to keep moving - quickly! as the parade was moving faster than she was.

The second opportunity came when her kung fu school came by. We felt it was too hot and too far for her to try walking the entire parade with them, at least this year.

Off she goes. She walked with them the final 3-4 blocks.

At home she wanted to show off her kung fu form. She is excited to be ready to test for her yellow sash the first Saturday in August. (Molly was giving her a little coaching on the kicks, which are not easy with her balance issues and lack of flexibility.)

Since we had one fractured arm, one tired Dad, no real plans and 2 boxes of sparklers we opted for a movie at home (The Incredibles), sparklers on the street and the Washington DC fireworks finale on TV.
