Alice means

Since I bored with the meaning behind the English names we thought we might use I want to be complete and share what I've learned about "Alice".  :-)

Alice comes from the German Adalheidis meaning noble type; of the noble sort. It evolved to the French AdelaisAdelaide and Alais to the English Alys and Alice.

My tutor looked up the Chinese equivalent and it is also a very nice name. 爱丽丝.
Each character has a nice meaning.

爱 Ài (sounds like "I") - means love
丽 lì (sounds like "lee") means beautiful
丝 sī (sounds like the "si" at the beginning of silk) means silk
