Another Alice connection

Yesterday I kept turning "Alice" around in my head feeling like there was something familiar about it. Then I remembered!

Among our collection of favorite children's books still on our bookshelves is Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. The story is about a woman named Miss Alice Rumphius and is told from the perspective of her great-niece (and namesake) little Alice. It is a beautiful story about a woman who grows up and does something to make the world more beautiful. You can hear the story read and see the illustrations from the book here.

I can get the story in simplified Chinese, Wen's first language. It's tempting to get it now and include it in the care package we will be sending, but it is a hardcover book (albeit not very large) and shipping is expensive. I will probably get it and have it waiting on her bookshelf when she arrives. I think it's kinda cool.
