So now we start the s-l-o-w part of the trip --- waiting for the visa so we can leave. So boring. Amy went to bed early last night and was awake early this morning, but felt very good. That is a pleasant change from our experience with Alice and Lucy, who both felt feverish the morning after getting all those vaccinations. Amy ate a good breakfast and we went out with Helen for a couple of hours.
This was my first visit to the Guangzhou Zoo. I've heard it's rather depressing compared to American zoos. The animals, especially the larger ones, have very small enclosures.
People also flagrantly ignore the "do not feed the animals" signs.
If you zoom in you will see candy wrappers on the ground!
Last I heard, hippos are not known for being friendly. Look at this - the mother put her daughter on the railing, feet dangling inside.
We did find something interesting for Amy - Chinese zodiac animals.
Amy is a dragon.
Alice is a rabbit.
We made a quick stop at the local Trust Mart for some fruit and water. Helen suggested getting some fried rice and noodles for lunch while we were there to take back to the room. Cheap stop. Only 36.70 yuan (~ $6) for 12 bottles of water, some tangerines & lychee and lunch. I like cheap!
Really sad, America doesn't do that to their panda's on loan to us. That's awful.
